Merchant’s Edition Release

With thirty bees development stalling since April 2020, after countless please-wait-announcements there and the community starting to fall apart, Merchant’s Edition had to do something. On January 2nd, 2021, Merchant’s Edition forked thirty bees and immediately made release 1.9.0. See Merchant’s Edition on Github.

At Merchant’s Edition we have deep knowledge on how a fork works and which infrastructure it needs. The project is funded, it’s here to stay. Your shop is secured!

Having lots of experience with core software also means lots of experience with customizations. A few ideas of what we can do for you:

PrestaShop Migration

PrestaShop (PS) has a long history of favoring new features over reliability and bug fixing. Not everybody likes this strategy. One way out is to migrate to thirty bees. Especially for merchants currently running PrestaShop 1.6.x.x. A few keywords:

• Migration from PS 1.6 to thirty bees is as simple as upgrading from 1.6.1.19 to 1.6.1.20.
• If you currently run PS 1.5 or earlier, upgrade to PS 1.6.1 using tools provided by PrestaShop first.
• Migration from PS 1.7 is a distinct beast, modules and themes are incompatible. We’re working on this.
• Almost all PrestaShop 1.6 modules and themes continue to just work. They’re still there after migration.
• If you’re still uncertain, we’ll happily do this for you in a safe way. Please contact us for an offer.

Current Work

This is the plan for the near future, what we’re already working on.

• Rebranding the Merchant’s Edition release. A new back office style appeared already. Installer about to follow.
• Enhancing Core Updater to allow migration from (and back to!) thirty bees.
• Uncluttering back office. At least a dozen items in back office have been identified which are plain useless, just waiting to get removed.
• Chat and forum, better communications. Candidates under consideration are Riot and Flarum.
• A shop offering our services along with payment options. Currently that’s manually operated PayPal and bankwire.
